Dordogne: his wife is about to give birth, the gendarmes enter the scene

In the Dordogne, gendarmes escorted a man and his wife, about to give birth, this Thursday, July 7. They then led a real race against time to arrive in time at the Bergerac maternity ward.

A hectic morning for the gendarmes of the Bergerac motorized brigade. This Tuesday, July 7, around 7:30 a.m., two officers performing a speed check in Prigonrieux, were stopped by a panicked motorist, reports France Bleu. The man, domiciled in the commune of Fougueyrolles, in Dordogne, explained to the gendarmes that his wife’s water had just broken, and that she could give birth in the vehicle if she did not arrive in time at the maternity ward

Neither one nor two, the two gendarmes therefore mounted their motorcycles to escort car with sirens to save time at the entrance of the city to the Bergerac maternity hospital. The future mother has finally able to be taken care of in time by the midwife and gave birth properly in the hospital.

A woman gives birth in front of a police station

This is not the first time that the gendarmes of Dordogne have been mobilized to help a young woman give birth to her baby. In October 2021, the head of the La Roche-Chalais brigade, assisted by his wife, came to the aid of a woman who was giving birth in her car. “My wife was leaving for work. She saw a car parked just in front of the gendarmerie. Inside, a woman was lying giving birth. She called me right away. I alerted the fire brigade while ‘she was going to get clothes to help the mother”had told Constable Laurent Carville to Sud Ouest, before adding: “The father was completely distraught outside. For the mother, labor had started and when we arrived, we saw the baby’s head”. The gendarme’s wife then supervised the last minutes of the delivery before the baby showed up. When paramedics arrived, they found a baby boy, named Kirian, in perfect health.
