Dota: The International 2022 prize pool will be colossal but… down sharply

For a few days, the rumors evoked a still big prize pool for the next edition of the Dota 2 World Tournament, The International 2022, but unable to do better than other years. And indeed, with the Battle Pass which was launched by Valve recently, we already know that for this edition, the prize pool will “only” exceed $10 million. If the figure is colossal for the tournament, we are not at the level of TI 2019 with its 11.5 million, or last year’s edition with more than 12 million.

For this TI2022 of October 15 to 30, players will fight for the third largest cash prize in the history of the competition. As a reminder, 25% of the proceeds from the Battle Pass prize pool will go directly into the tournament at the end of TI, in just over a month. A lower figure this year in the end which appears to be related to player criticism of Valve’s handling of this new Battle Pass.

For the first time in its history, the Battle Pass will therefore not exceed the other editions but will remain substantial for the competitors, as can be seen on the prizetracker. There’s even still a tiny chance it won’t reach the 2018 figure.… As a reminder, in total at the end of the competition, the prize pool (25% of the Battle Pass + the basic prize pool of $1.6M + winnings during the competition) had risen to more than $40 million last year, of which 45.5% was distributed to the champions, Team Spirit. Again, impossible to do better in 2022!
