Double Cleansing is a part of the famous Korean Skin Care, but it’s a pretty big one. GALA will tell you what makes it so important and how you can achieve double cleaning correctly.
For many people, blemishes, pimple marks or wrinkles are a reason to revise their skincare routine. One way to beautiful skin, as we know from photoshopped commercials, is double cleansing. Because the right one Cleaning is half the battle when it comes to combating impurities and the like.
Double Cleansing – the most important step in the care routine
Rubbing your face briefly with the cleanser and then immediately washing it off with water is a type of facial care, but one that is not really recommended. A lot of impurities accumulate on our facial skin throughout the day, which can cause clogged pores if the wrong cleaning method is used. That’s why double cleansing is so important to really remove any traces of makeup or dead skin cells. This requires two different facial cleansers, one oil-based and one water-based.
What products do I need for double cleansing?
Cleansing products that clog pores are not beneficial, especially when it comes to impurities. But bad products can also be responsible for a pale complexion. The Cleansing oil It should therefore be enriched with nourishing substances such as vitamins and avoid silicones, mineral oils and paraffins. Shea butter, argan oil or hemp oil, for example, are comedogenic-free, so they do not contain the substances mentioned. Step one would be done with finding the right cleansing oil.
The second step is to use the appropriate water-based cleanser. Of course, it should also be as free of comedogenic substances as possible and have a nourishing effect. Cleansing lotions are best because they are gentle on the skin, but also a Cleansing foam can be used, for example for combination or oily skin.
You can treat dry or sensitive skin with a cleansing balm or a mild cleansing foam because they are usually not only very gentle, but also rich in nourishing substances.
How does double cleaning work correctly?
Not only what but also how plays a role in double cleaning. Once you have found the right cleaning products, you can start washing up. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Step: Take the oil-based cleanser and rub it into your face for about 40 seconds. This loosens impurities and prepares your pores for the following steps. By the way, you can not only remove eye make-up very easily with the cleanser, but also gently using circular movements.
- Step: Wash off the cleansing oil thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Step: Clean your face for the second time with a hazelnut-sized portion of your water-based cleanser. Here you take 60 seconds to thoroughly and carefully reach every part of your face with the cleansing product and clean it. In this step you also remove any remaining cleaning oil.
- Step: After rubbing your face with the cleansing balm or foam, wash off the residue again with lukewarm water.
- Step: Now you can continue with your usual skincare routine or Korean skin care.
Is double cleansing morning and evening necessary?
Double cleansing is particularly important in the evening, as a lot of dirt accumulates throughout the day – including make-up, everyday dust or dander. Especially with heavily used foundation, double cleansing is almost necessary to get rid of any impurities. Ingredients such as silicones, which are contained in many foundations, often settle in the pores and cause them to become blocked. It’s different with mineral powder. This lies like a breathable film over our skin, covers it and even acts as sun protection thanks to the minerals it contains.
Double cleansing is not necessary in the morning; here you can either use the water-based cleanser, again for 60 seconds, or just use lukewarm water and a suitable one toner.
Is double cleansing also necessary if I don’t wear makeup?
Make-up can contaminate our skin if it contains substances such as silicones or mineral oils. But even without foundations and the like, our skin is confronted with impurities throughout the day. So double cleansing is beneficial even if you didn’t have makeup on, but it’s not as necessary as if you were using foundation or powder.
Who is Double Cleansing not suitable for?
Not every skin type is made for double cleansing. Normal skin is excluded, as is combination, dry or oily skin. Only sensitive skin needs to be treated separately. Because you can not only over-care for your skin, but also over-clean it. Rashes and itching are then the result. Both are unpleasant and avoidable. If you have sensitive skin, for example due to skin diseases such as neurodermatitis, couperose or rosacea, it is better to take one mild lotion or a cleansing balm to help relieve symptoms.
If after a week or two you notice your skin changing negatively and developing pimples or a rash, then stop double cleansing. Your skin may then be overwhelmed and actually become over-cleaned. As an alternative to deep pore cleansing, you have, among other things AHA peeling, which gently removes dead skin cells and frees pores of sebum. It’s best to use it a maximum of twice a week, otherwise your skin may start to peel.
Is there an alternative to double cleaning?
As already mentioned, there is the AHA peeling, which you can use to rid your skin of impurities on a weekly basis. Another and less aggressive method – although AHA is generally not aggressive when dosed correctly – is this BHA peeling. The fat-dissolving agent draws out accumulated oil and sebum from the pores so that sebum production can regulate itself again. You can also use a BHA peeling daily in small doses, especially for impurities. If you have dry skin, you should avoid peeling products as much as possible and prefer to work with moisture such as hyaluronic acid.
