Double Fine PsychOdyssey: an impressive 32-episode documentary series on the development of Psychonauts 2

Double Fine Productions is one of the most atypical studios on the market. Tim Schafer’s team now belonging to Xbox Game Studios is indeed responsible for original and striking games, Psychonauts To Brutal Legend Passing by Grim Fandango Remastered (remastered version of a track conceived by Schafer during his time at LucasArts).

Their latest feat of arms is Psychonauts 2a sequel to the long and complicated development that unanimously convinced when it was released in 2021. And while Double Fine Productions now has enough perspective on his video game adventure to talk about it, he has just been released an exciting behind-the-scenes documentary series, Double Fine PsychOdyssey. The society 2 Player Productions has indeed followed the teams every day for 7 years, from the first overambitious designs to the low morale through the technical and financial problems, to offer us a glimpse of the difficulty of creating a video game, but also of the passion developers.

Series Double Fine PsychOdyssey necessarily has a lot to tell, and that’s why it was split into 32 episodes, for a total duration of more than 22 hours ! The pharaonic project will not interest everyone, especially since it is currently only available in English on Youtube in Internet Archive (where it can be downloaded for free), but represents a godsend for all spectators wishing to discover the daily life of video game professionals. This is not the studio’s first attempt in the exercise, it had already revealed to us the secrets of the development of broken age with the report in 20 episodes Double Fine Adventure in 2015.
