Doubts about 2G nationwide
Traffic light wants to present new corona law on Monday

The “epidemic emergency” ends on November 25th. The traffic light parties now want to present a new law that is to become the future legal basis for corona measures on Monday. Details are not yet known. A nationwide 2G rule may not be included.

The SPD, Greens and FDP want to present a bill to amend the Infection Protection Act this Monday. This was announced by the Green parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt in the ARD program “Anne Will”. “We’ll say that tomorrow in Parliament, of course, and the parliamentary groups first,” said Göring-Eckardt. The Green politician did not want to comment on details. On the question of whether there should be a nationwide 2G rule, i.e. access only for vaccinated and convalescent people, the parliamentary group leader said that, in her opinion, this could not be made legally certain nationwide.

The Bundestag wants to deliberate on a new Infection Protection Act in the first reading on Thursday. On November 25, the special status of the epidemic situation of national scope expires. Göring-Eckardt rejected an extension and emphasized that a solution was necessary that was sufficient and also legally secure.

The acting Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn announced on Wednesday that he wanted to provide the traffic light parties with formulation aids for the Corona law. The CDU minister as well as the traffic light parties want to ensure that the current measures such as mask requirements and distance requirements, but also the so-called 2G and 3G regulations, can be maintained until the coming year. The SPD, Greens and FDP have proposed March 20 as the end date for the regulations.

3G means that only people who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, who have recovered from a coronavirus disease or who tested negative for the virus are admitted to certain locations. With the stricter 2G regulation, only vaccinated and convalescent people are allowed.
