The second sequel to the hit series “Downton Abbey” will not be released this year.

Fans will have to do without an early Christmas present: “Downton Abbey 2” will not have its cinema premiere this year. The start of the second sequel in the series has been postponed from December 22, 2021 to March 18, 2022. That reports among other things the US industry portal “Variety”.

New Stars in “Downton Abbey 2”

The main actors from the predecessor from 2019 will also be seen in the sequel. Fans can look forward to seeing Hugh Bonneville (57) as Robert Crawley or Michelle Dockery (39) as Lady Mary – and other actors who will join the original cast – including Hugh Dancy (46), Laura Haddock (35), Nathalie Baye (72) and Dominic West (51).

The screenplay is again penned by Julian Fellowes (71), who previously also designed the popular series “Downton Abbey” (2010-2015) about a British aristocratic family. In addition, as in the first part, Fellowes is one of the producers alongside Gareth Neame (54) and Liz Trubridge (born 1955). This time it is directed by Simon Curtis (61, “My Week with Marilyn”). Actor Bonneville announced earlier this year that it would be just as “a pleasant” film as the first – especially after “this mess we all went through”.
