Downton Abbey: you can sleep in the Crawley castle

The universe of Downton Abbey made you dream? Know that it is possible to realize your fantasy by visiting Highclere Castle, filming location of the series and residence of the Crawley family. The building even has annexes that allow those who wish to stay there! The London Lodge and the Grotto Lodge, two annexes built in 1793 and 1865 respectively, immerse visitors in the daily life of the aristocrats in the series. On the official site of the castle, it is written: “The two lodges are now available for rent for two nights (London Lodge) or three nights (Grotto Lodge). We include some basic groceries when you arrive at either lodge, so you can enjoy coffee or tea, breakfast and fruit. Otherwise, these dwellings are self-sufficient. You will also find information on local pubs and restaurants, as well as suggestions for other places to visit while in Highclere.

For the curious, Highclere Castle is the private family home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. The building dates from 17th century Victorian era. Regarding the two annexes, the London Lodge is an imposing entrance, built by Colonel Henry Herbert, completely restored and refurbished in which we find “two wings including a double bedroom”. For its part, the Grotto Lodge “is a charming building of character, designed by Victorian architect Thomas Allom and built approximately one hundred and fifty years ago. […] It has two double bedrooms, one on each floor above the living room and kitchen”.
