The end of DPReview
It looks like a bad April Fool’s joke and yet no, after almost 25 years of publications around the photo, DPReview will close its doors. On April 10, the site that served as a reference for many professionals and amateurs will stop broadcasting and it’s a real heartbreak.
25 years of photo testing
Launched in 1998, DPReview had gradually established itself as the model for fans of photo equipment tests. In 2007, the then London site had been bought by Amazon – then on the way to becoming the monster we know – but it had managed to remain independent, even if the teams had been obliged, in 2010, to move to the Washington state, closer to the motherhouse.
Amazon in turmoil
Tech companies are going through a complicated period and mass layoffs are on the rise, Amazon being no exception, with 18,000 job cuts announced, and the editorial staff, as well as the whole site, seem to have been swept away in the storm. . A very sad end.
