dr Ruth Herz is dead. The renowned lawyer died at the age of 79. She became known on the RTL show “Das Jugendgericht”.

The well-known TV judge and renowned legal scholar Dr. Ruth Herz is dead. As her former broadcaster RTL announced via Instagram on Friday, February 10, 2023, the doctor of law died at the age of 79. According to “Frankfurter Rundschau” Herz passed away in the first week of February.

The TV judge’s heart beat for teenagers

The judge embodied herself in the court program “Das Jugendgericht” and negotiated fictitious cases there from 2001 to 2005. She then withdrew from the classic media business and went to Oxford University for a research project. Kirsten Erl (1966-2017), who remained the judge there until the show was discontinued in 2007, took over her role.

dr Ruth Herz received the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon

dr Ruth Herz was born in Haifa, now Israel, in 1943 and moved to Germany when she was about seven years old. After graduating from high school, she studied law at the Universities of Geneva, Munich and Cologne and was sworn in as a judge at the District Court in 1974. In 1998 she received the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon. In his first marriage, Herz was married to the sociology professor Thomas Aage Herz (1938-1995) until his death.

Together they had a daughter and a son, the renowned architect Manuel Herz (*1969). In the 2000s, the lawyer married the Israeli historian Gabriel Gorodetsky, 77. The RTL team also pressed in a message on the broadcaster’s website his condolences to the family and loved ones.
