Drag Race France: how are the drag queens of the show selected?

Event in France! Saturday June 25, 2022, France Télévisions offers to discover its new entertainment Drag Race France. This format adapted from the cult American show RuPaul’s Drag Race will be first posted on the France TV Slash platform at 8 p.m., then broadcast from 11:23 p.m. on France 2. Here, a jury will face several drag queens with only one objective: become the best. The judges will be queen Nicky Doll, presenter Daphné Bürki and artist Kiddy Smile. Ten French queens will compete in tests to win the competition.

The cast of the first season of Drag Race France is the next : Kam Hugh, Elips, La Big Bertha, La Kahena, Lova Ladiva, La Briochee, Lolita Banana, Paloma, Soa De Muse, La Grande Dame. But how were these selected to participate in this unique and unprecedented competition on French television (many editions of RuPaul’s Drag Raceclassics and All Starsare available on Netflix)? Nicolas Missoffre, one of the producers at Endemol, replied to our colleagues from 20 Minutes: “[Les critères étaient, ndlr] What they represent, their level of drag, where they are, where they want to go, their motivations…” A total of 450 applications were sent in, a significant number that surprised the producers.

What trials will the queens of Drag Race France to be crowned Ultimate Queen of the program? Every week, they will have to complete mini and maxi challenges that will highlight their artistic skills : makeup, singing, dancing, fashion, humor… A colorful and explosive cocktail to spend a summer that promises to be “LE-GENDAIRE!“
