Superstar McDavid ensures perfect Oilers start

The Edmonton Oilers celebrated an important victory over the Dallas Stars in the NHL playoffs. Leon Draisaitl once again played a part in this, extending his outstanding record. The match winner for the Canadians, however, was the extremely strong goalie Stuart Skinner.

Ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl and his Edmonton Oilers are on course for the Stanley Cup final in the NHL. In a hard-fought first play-off semi-final, the Canadians beat former champions Dallas Stars 3-2, with Draisaitl’s strike partner Connor McDavid scoring the decisive goal 32 seconds into the second overtime. Draisaitl himself had given the Oilers a 1-0 lead 58 seconds into the second period, and goalie Stuart Skinner also put in a strong performance in the first Western Conference final with 31 saves.

“That was a very, very important game for us. Winning the first away game is of course extremely important in a series like this,” Draisaitl told Sky. “It’s an important win, but a win doesn’t win a series, we all know that.” Personally, Draisaitl extended his playoff series with his goal. He has now scored a goal or assisted a goal in each of the 13 games of the postseason. “The series itself is not that important to me now. I want to win the Stanley Cup. That’s why I’m trying to do my part on both sides of the ice – whether defensively or offensively,” he said. “For me personally, things are going relatively well and I hope that it continues like this for a bit.”

Edmonton last reached the conference finals in 2022, but was clearly defeated by eventual champion Colorado Avalanche (0:4). This time things should be different. “It will be a close story, but we feel comfortable in these games,” said captain McDavid. Game two of the best-of-seven series will also take place in Dallas on Sunday night.
