The third grader was reportedly playing with a friend on a tilted trailer. The accident happened while grain grains were being dumped from the dump truck. The nine-year-old was caught in a strong suction and was buried under the grain. Despite early rescue by the farmer and the care provided by the rescue helicopter team, Thomas died on the same day in the Salzburg University Hospital according to negligent homicide through failure to supervise, explains public prosecutor Marcus Neher in an interview with the “Krone”. Before that, however, everyone involved would have to be interviewed. “Of course, they are all still under the impression of what they have experienced,” says the prosecutor. It is therefore not yet possible to estimate when a decision will be made about the possible filing of charges, says Neher. An autopsy and the appointment of an expert will be waived. “The course of events and the cause of death are sufficiently clear,” explains the lawyer.
