According to information from The Independentthe drama happened in a liquor store located in the city of Elim, in the south-west of the country.
As reported by the British media, a viral video would have circulated on South African social networks, on which we discover the young man emptying a Jägermeister bottlea famous liqueur with an alcohol content of 35%, in less than two minutes, to the applause and encouragement of a small crowd of people gathered in the shop.
A challenge to win 11 euros
Just after this exploit, the man would have unfortunately collapsed, and would have lost consciousness. “He was taken to the local clinic, where he was pronounced dead.”, said a spokesman for the police, quoted by The Independent. The English daily also reveals that the victim had participated in this dangerous game in order to win the sum of 200 rand (about 11.70 euros) if he could drink the whole bottle in a given time. For their part, the police immediately opened an investigation, in particular with the aim of identifying the victim, who was apparently elderly “about 25 or 30 years old”.
