The idyllic Wildental was the scene of a tragic alpine accident at the weekend. A 26-year-old hiker was reported missing on Friday and his body was found on Saturday.
Thanks to cell phone tracking, the emergency services were able to narrow down the search area to Wildental, located between Oberstdorf (D) and the Kleinwalsertal village of Hirschegg. The Alpine terrain was systematically combed on Saturday, and finally the worst fears became a sad reality: Austrian aviation police discovered the body of the missing man below the summit of the Kemptner Köpfles. As the alpine police’s investigations revealed, the hiker fell over rocky terrain and sustained fatal injuries. Third-party negligence can be ruled out, which is why the Feldkirch public prosecutor has not initiated an investigation.
