Dream job in Ireland: Insel is looking for friends who want to run a café – there are catches

Escape the stressful day-to-day job and run a café on a picturesque island – for many that sounds like a dream. And that could come true now. The tourist center of an Irish island is looking for two people who want to run the island's coffee shop for six months. But there is a catch.

Idyll, tranquility, picturesque landscapes: this is what a job offer on the Irish island of Great Blasket promises. The tourism center is looking for a couple or two friends via Twitter who will look after three cottages and run a café from April to October 2020. A salary is not specified, but meals and accommodation are provided.

Dream job without electricity and WiFi: 23,000 applicants already

The tiny island lies off the south-west coast of the Irish mainland and is apparently very isolated: There is no electricity or WiFi and "only limited drinking water", as it says on the island's website.

The job is intense and challenging, but also “a very unique job,” said Alice Hayes, who published the job ad, to Irish broadcaster RTE. "It means back to the roots – fire, candles, stoves, wildlife and nature."

Anyone who is interested can apply by email. However, prospective customers have to be prepared for competition. There are already 23,000 applicants.
