Dreame is launching an attack on our gardens with its A1 model. Packed with sensors and easy to install, this robot lawn mower has no shortage of advantages.

Spring is setting in everywhere in France, and with it comes the hours spent tending to one’s domain. Repotting, planting young plants, trimming hedges are all tasks that will occupy our weekends until the end of the season.

Of course, mowing the lawn will be the most common activity, with its characteristic sounds and smells. Fortunately, there is no need to roll up your sleeves every Saturday morning or recruit the neighbor’s grandson: technology is there to support us, with increasingly efficient robot lawn mowers, like the Dreame A1.

When cutting-edge technology attacks the lawn

Dreame is best known for its robot vacuum cleaners, the brand occupying second place in this sector in France. With a good reputation and considerable experience acquired in this type of autonomous device, the Chinese company is now interested in our gardens.

The Dreame A1 is a cordless perimeter trimmer. Like its vacuum cleaner counterparts, it is packed with sensors, including a LiDAR with a range of 70 m and an omnidirectional angle of 360° horizontally and 59° vertically. This allows it to map terrain autonomously in around 15 minutes, while spotting potential obstacles of more than 10 mm at a distance of 40 m, as well as pets that are a little too curious.

The device is also without peripheral cable, its 5 Ah battery ensuring optimal coverage of the garden. When this falls below 15% autonomy, the Dream A1 automatically returns to its base before setting off again to attack the lawn, after a recharge time which can take up to 65 minutes. Additionally, although IPX6 compliant, the robot automatically returns home as soon as it detects rain.

If Dreame seems to have managed the robot side very well, the mower aspect of the A1 model has also been perfectly thought out. Its floating blade reaches a rotation speed of 2200 rpm and can be changed quickly without tools. In addition, the machine can easily overcome slopes of up to 45% (or 24°), notably thanks to its grippy drive wheels.

A very accessible application

When it comes to the mobile application, users of robot vacuum cleaners will not be disappointed. The Dreame interface is easy to use, allowing you to configure different zones, with separate programs for each of them. It will even be possible to predefine different cutting sizes (from 30 to 70 mm) depending on the location.

Finally, the Dreame A1 is capable of covering 1,000 m2 of terrain in 24 hours in standard mode, and 2,000 m2 in “Efficiency” mode. The user also has the choice between four modes: mowing the entire ground, mowing defined areas, mowing borders and spot mode.

So, at what price can you acquire such an ally of gardeners? The Dreame A1 is sold in Europe for the modest sum of €1,999. A significant investment, especially if we compare it to the Navimox i105 and i108 from Segway, or the Goat G1-800 from ECOVACS. But the game may be worth it, given the performance displayed and the formidable ease of installation of this robot lawn mower.

A hyper-connected geek and keen on podcasts, I'm always reading or listening to news of all kinds. Between history, tech, politics, music, video games and popular science: all the news (or almost all) arouses my curiosity. Otherwise, I like rock and lofi, game nights that are always too long, good films and guys.
