Google is rolling out new security and compliance features to its application suite, which will benefit, thanks to artificial intelligence, users of Drive and of gmail.

With a huge increase in computer attacks in 2022, it is imperative to work on the cybersecurity of the tools used by individuals or companies, and Google has understood this. The firm, which is no longer stopped in the field of AI, this week unveiled new threat defense features for tools in its suite of Google Workspace applications. These are powered by artificial intelligence to help you better protect your data.

Better protect users and companies by avoiding the sharing of sensitive files

In Google Drive, the American firm now uses artificial intelligence to automate classification. More concretely, Drive document administrators can now use privacy-protecting AI models, which can be personalized, for example according to their company. It is also possible to automatically classify and label new files and those already present in the application.

In addition to Drive, Gmail benefits from many contributions, with the strengthening of Data Loss Prevention (DLP) controls. These are put in place to prevent users from sending critical or sensitive information outside the corporate network.

On Gmail, workspace admins can set criteria that must be met for a user to share sensitive content in Drive. Among them, we can mention the location of the device or the security status.

A two-step verification that becomes mandatory for large accounts

Google aims to prevent cyber threats before they appear. Phishing, the king technique of social engineering, does damage and remains one of the main drivers of data breaches. The company is therefore announcing that it is extending its AI-based defense mechanisms to provide automated protection for new sensitive actions in Gmail. Google is talking about filtering or redirecting e-mails here. This is a welcome extension of sensitive action protection in messaging.

And that’s not all, because Google makes two-step verification mandatory, at least for reseller administrator counters and those of the Mountain View firm’s largest customers. ” This measure will help reduce the number of admin accounts being hijacked due to password theft and lack of two-step verification, thus improving their level of security. “says Google.

Finally, a company will be able, by the end of the year, to choose the place of processing of its data: either in the United States or in Europe. Companies can already choose where their data is stored at rest and even have the option of backing up a copy of that Workspace data to the country of their choice.
