From November 2023 to April 2024, hundreds of thousands of offenses were wrongly not penalized by deducting points. But motorists are not saved.
Have you been fined, received a fine to pay, but no points have been deducted from your driving license? Since mid-November 2023, a computer bug has prevented the processing of 600,000 files, and therefore the withdrawal of a good number of points.
A buggy system update
The information was confirmed by the National Union of Points License Professionals (SNPAP) withActu.fr. Its president Joël Polteau explains that the National Agency for the Automated Processing of Offenses (ANTAI) “reworked its data system” following the cessation of the withdrawal of points for small speeding violations, less than 5 km/h. The changes made would have crashed the system.
When an electronic report was drawn up and the motorist at fault chose not to pay immediately on the spot, he received his fine, but he was not reduced points on his driving license.
The bug was corrected on April 15, 2024, six months after its misdeeds began. Bad news for the offenders, they should be caught by the patrol in the coming weeks and months. And if they have had several traffic offenses in a row, the offenses will be cumulative.
Your points may well be withdrawn
“Some motorists have reportedly received fine notices with the indication “zero points removed”. I can only advise them to keep this document carefully, which could prove useful in some time”commented Maître Jean-Baptiste Le Dall, lawyer specializing in road law, in the columns of Le Progrès.
According to SNPAP, this bug would have caused a loss of earnings for points recovery professionals of around eight million euros. Point recovery centers have in fact seen their attendance drop by 30% to 35%.
