Driving with summer tires – passenger killed in a fall with a car in a creek

The drive of a married couple with summer tires in Mattighofen in wintry road conditions ended fatally on Sunday night. The car skidded and crashed into a creek. The driver (60) was just able to save himself, but unfortunately there was no more help for the woman.

The couple (60 and 54) from Feldkirchen/M. was driving his SUV on Rosengasse in Mattighofen around 1.15 a.m. When driving over a bridge, the car suddenly skidded in wintry driving conditions and fell over an embankment into the Kühbach, where it overturned and sank with the wheels up. The man just managed to free himself from the sinking car, his wife stayed behind in the car. Witness tried to help A local witness (55) immediately alerted the police and then jumped into the stream to free the trapped woman. But the car got stuck in the mud and couldn’t open the doors. Just two minutes later, a radio patrol crew arrived and also rushed to help. A rescue team also arrived at the scene of the accident. Unsuccessful attempts at resuscitation A policewoman who jumped into the stream even tried to smash the car window with an iron bar – unfortunately without success. The 54-year-old could only be rescued after the fire department turned the car around. Unfortunately, she could no longer be helped, all attempts at resuscitation by an emergency doctor were unsuccessful. The injured 60-year-old was taken to the Braunau hospital by ambulance. According to the police, summer tires were apparently mounted on the car.
