Du butter (lots of butter), candy bars and socks. The gendarmes got their hands on a strange loot on Saturday January 15 in Pont-de-l’Isère, in the Drôme. According to The liberated Dauphiné, which reports this information. It was during a check that the gendarmes were able to arrest two Georgians. They had put all the goods in the trunk of their Peugeot 206. If, at first glance, this case may seem unusual, it is actually not the case. These thefts are very organized, and are the work of the Georgian mafia, which has been operating in the region for three years.
The modus operandi of the thugs is very simple: steal small items, such as butter wafers or chocolate bars, then leave the target supermarket hiding the goods. For 80 slabs of butter, the quantity found by the gendarmes of the Tain-l’Hermitage brigade in the car, they must certainly have taken several.
The two thugs taken into custody
The two Georgians, aged 31 and 32, were placed in police custody for “concealment of theft in a meeting”. The investigation will be used in particular to determine who participated in the thefts and which stores were targeted.
