The Dropbox storage platform is rolling out new features focused, in part, around security, with the expansion of valuable end-to-end encryption.

Dropbox unveiled, Monday April 29, 2024, a series of new features for its online file sharing suite. These include new developments in data protection and security. New integrations with Microsoft 365 are also on the menu, as are improvements to the Dropbox web interface and new Dropbox Replay features.

Dropbox launches end-to-end encryption for companies that want to take a step forward in the security of exchanged content

Let’s start with end-to-end encryption. We already know that all files stored on Dropbox are encrypted using the 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), which provides a certain level of guarantee when it comes to security. But the publisher is aware that structures, companies in particular, dream of an increased level of security to control both their data and their authorizations.

So in addition to existing security levels, businesses can have access to end-to-end encryption functionality, so that only the sender and recipient of the content can access it. Even Dropbox cannot, on paper, access it. The platform explains that this encryption is natively integrated into the files. No need, therefore, to subscribe to other software.

Dropbox also allows advanced management of encryption keys. This means that users can now configure a unique encryption key, which is processed by FIPS 140-2 Level 3 key management services.

All Dropbox Advanced, Business Plus and Enterprise users can benefit from these new security features starting this Monday, April 29.

Dropbox takes care of its integration with Microsoft, to make life easier for users

Users like easy integration, and that’s okay. Obviously, being able to connect tools used on a daily basis with its Dropbox products is attractive. The publisher has heard the public and has therefore formalized improved integration with Microsoft Teams. It will allow you to search, preview, import and share content stored in Dropbox, without having to leave Microsoft 365.

Dropbox goes even further in its integration with Microsoft, with the “Real time Co-Authoring” functionality, in beta, which allows several members of a team to collaborate together on Word, PowerPoint or Excel files, both on computer, mobile and others, all from Dropbox, with, like Google Docs or Sheets, viewing changes in real time. Dropbox Replay for OneDrive allows you to import written, audio or video files from OneDrive, directly into DropboxReplay, to correct and validate them. A real plus for the publisher, aware that video has become the fastest growing type of content at Dropbox, with 1.5 billion pieces of content imported each year.

Among the other new features brought by Dropbox, we can also cite that of the Dropbox web interface, with the easy display of a file preview by navigating through folders; Quickly access favorite files or launch a project with quick action suggestions for files.

DocSend Advanced Data Rooms, for real-time security of transactions

The other big new feature at Dropbox is DocSend Advanced Data Rooms. The tool simplifies the transaction process, from upstream (initial presentation) to downstream (signing of the project). It accommodates features like group permissions, reader identification, and confidentiality agreements to protect the most sensitive information.

Real-time transaction information can also be exchanged, such as full data room statistics, page-by-page information. The process of creating and organizing the virtual data room is done in minutes, using data room templates, various customization options and automatic indexing. The following video will give you a quick overview.

Journalist, responsible for Clubic news. Reporter, videographer, host and even singer-imitator, I wrote my first article in 6th grade. I made this vocation my profession (graduated from EJCAM, a school recognized by the profession), to write, interview, film, edit and produce written, audio or video content on a daily basis. Some chemistry with Tech, certainly, but also with the world of media, sport and travel. In addition to journalism, video production and animation, I have a YouTube channel (in my name) which should pique your curiosity if you like beautiful walks around the world, new technologies and music 🙂
