The fugitive, who was the subject of several convictions and against whom the courts had issued several arrest warrants, is “very well known to the police”, Guillaume Lacassin, head of the national search brigade, explained to AFP fugitives (BNRF).
In particular, he took an “active part” in the trafficking and violence “around the Wagner gallery deal point”, near which the young Fayed, 10 years old, had been killed on August 21, a collateral victim of a “war” between traffickers. “We were seized at the end of the summer and worked on the suspect’s environment for six months before locating him,” continued Guillaume Lacassin.
A sensitive neighborhood
The man was arrested on February 8 in Marsillargues (Hérault), around thirty kilometers from Nîmes, where he was renting short-term accommodation. He led “a clandestine and itinerant existence” and had maintained his links “with the Nîmes criminal environment”, according to the head of the BNRF.
The suspect was also found in the company of another man, also wanted for violence linked to drug trafficking in the Pissevin city, whom the Montpellier PJ police officers also arrested. Presented to a magistrate, he was imprisoned to carry out the sentences pronounced against him, concluded Guillaume Lacassin.
The Cité Pissevin, an impoverished district of Nîmes plagued by violence, is the regular scene of shootings and score-settling linked to drug trafficking.
