Drugs, “strange behavior”… What we know about the investigation targeting Senator Joël Guerriau


Joël Guerriau, 66, senator from the independent group and close to Edouard Philippe’s Horizons movement, is suspected of having drugged an MP without her knowledge. He was arrested and then taken into custody by the judicial police in Paris.

According to the latest information collected by Europe 1, the senator from Loire-Atlantique tested positive for several drugs: cocaine, MDMA, opiates, among others. It was during an evening last Tuesday that Joël Guerriau invited his colleague to his Parisian home. A meeting that ends short since the 48-year-old MP feels bad after a first drink.

“Tuffer of 44”

The chosen one decides to go to the hospital where the analyzes carried out reveal the presence of ecstasy in her body. Joël Guerriau, nicknamed “Teuffeur du 44” in a WhatsApp group of Republican senators consulted by Europe 1, is therefore placed in police custody.

This Friday afternoon, the MP spoke to investigators about the senator’s “strange behavior” during that evening, indicating that Joël Guerriau wanted to “party” with her. If he is found guilty of having drugged someone without their knowledge, the senator from Loire-Atlantique, vice-president of the Defense Foreign Affairs Committee in the Senate, risks five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros. .

Christophe Béchu, secretary general of Edouard Philippe’s party, declared in the morning that Joël Guerriau “cannot stay” at Horizons “if there is the slightest doubt”. A political bureau must be held this Saturday morning to examine the situation and lead to a possible exclusion from the party.
