Dubai lets it rain – by plane. The luxury city in the United Arab Emirates uses manned aircraft to artificially increase rainfall. The emirate is currently struggling with a heat wave.
Rain-generating technology known as “cloud seeding” was deployed when temperatures rose above 48 degrees, reported «Independent».
Experts say the technology aims to make rain more efficient inside clouds. The aim is for more water to come down. The planes are used to shoot chemicals like silver iodide into the clouds. This triggers more rain.
Intense showers after “cloud seeding”
Recordings shared on Sunday by the United Arab Emirates’ National Meteorological Center showed the intense showers that even flooded streets.
Rain generation has become common in arid countries like the United Arab Emirates, which typically receive extremely few liters of rain per year, the Independent reported. (euc)
