Classic, elegant and a touch playful: Alessandra Rich is one designer who hits the mark with her looks for Duchess Catherine. A knighthood? The designer is now talking about this – and reveals a piquant detail about Kate’s clothes.

Dot patterns, puff sleeves, Peter Pan collars and feminine cuts: Alessandra Rich’s designs are unique. One royal in particular has taken a special liking to her: Duchess Catherine, 40. The mother of three shows up regularly in the extraordinary clothes, most recently relying on some of the designer’s polka-dot creations. There is no question that this gave the label a boost in popularity. Now the designer comments on her loyal customer Duchess Catherine.

Duchess Catherine: That’s what her favorite designer says about her

Hard to believe, but the Italian designer has never spoken to Kate in person or seen her tell the Telegraph now. “It was a big surprise for me,” says Rich. “We only know she’s wearing one of the dresses if we see her in it – we’re never told anything in advance. We don’t ask and they don’t tell us.”

“I’m very grateful”

However, Alessandra Rich can be sure which of her looks Kate is most likely to choose. Because Prince William’s wife relies primarily on clothes that meet the demands of public appearances. The required dress code: elegant, long-sleeved, feminine. But not all of Alessandra Rich’s designs meet these mostly classic criteria.

When asked whether the designer thinks it’s a shame that the general public only knows a fraction of her creations – especially the somewhat “staid” ones – she finds the following words: “I’m very grateful. The buyers know that the collection is bigger so it’s okay that the public is mostly familiar with the more conservative pieces. The Duchess of Cambridge is such a style icon! I can’t say I’m not thrilled that she likes my dresses.”

Conservative dresses? Most of Kate’s looks have a savory detail

But if you take a closer look, Kate’s looks don’t seem conservative through and through. There is almost always a more piquant detail on the outfits, such as a leg slit. “All my pieces are like that – they cover the arms or the legs, but there’s always a slit or a body chain underneath somewhere. It’s good to be a little cheeky,” says the designer.

Alessandra Rich: Which design she liked best on Duchess Catherine

Of all the Alessandra Rich dresses the Duchess of Cambridge was photographed in this year, the designer’s favorite is the cream and coffee-colored dress she wore to Royal Ascot with a brown hat and clutch bag. She told the Telegraph: “She looked so beautiful. It was crepe de chine, with an asymmetric hem – she looked amazing. It was the perfect choice for this incredible event. There is no such thing as Ascot in Italy , so it’s wonderful for me to see women like the Duchess dressing up here.”
