Long before Duchess Catherine was married to a prince and part of the British royal family, she was helping out in the family business. This job possibly laid the foundation for her current work.

When Duchess Catherine, 40, was still called Kate Middleton, she had a very special job in her mother’s company, which is not so dissimilar to her charitable work today. As a young mother, Carole Middleton, 67, founded the company “Party Pieces” after she discovered a gap in the market when she was looking for beautiful party decorations for Kate’s fifth birthday. Her three children initially pitched in, as the 67-year-old reveals in an interview with “Sheer Luxe”.

Duchess Catherine helped out in the family business

“Party Pieces has literally grown with my family and I’m very proud of that,” said Carole Middleton. “Pippa wrote our Party Times blog, James made the cakes after he left school and Catherine developed our ‘First Birthday’ and ‘Baby’ categories.”

For the siblings, these tasks seemed to pave the way for their future. Pippa Matthews, 38, later wrote a column for the cooking magazine of the chic supermarket chain Waitrose, while James Middleton, 34, started a marshmallow company in 2013 and has been running his own dog food company since 2020.

But Duchess Catherine, who became a working royal in 2011 when she married Prince William, 39, still uses the expertise she acquired early on. With her foundation “Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood” she focuses on the first five years of a child’s life and how this affects their future.

Carole Middleton raves about her family’s help

Even if the Middletons’ company was not only crowned with success, Carole Middleton is very proud of what she has achieved with the help of her entire family. “My husband and I were young and a bit inexperienced, but very enthusiastic, so we weren’t too worried,” she recalls. Despite some setbacks, it was a lot of fun founding the company.

“My family has always been my biggest support and my biggest critic. Their honest feedback was priceless and helped shape the company,” the entrepreneur enthuses, looking back today.
