Prince William and Duchess Catherine rarely give insight into their privacy – especially into their private rooms. But the floor plan of the Kensington Palace should now provide information about an atypical room layout.

Duchess Catherines, 39, and Prince Williams, 39, the palace can certainly not be compared with the typical houses in London and even worldwide – after all, it is still a royal residence. However, there is one thing that catches the eye about the floor plan of Kensington Palace that many people may find unusual at first glance.

Duchess Catherine + Prince William: Your bedrooms are on the ground floor of the palace

Like “Hello!” reported that the floor plan of the Cambridge house would show that the royals’ bedrooms are on the ground floor of the palace. In most bourgeois households it is common – if the house is a multi-storey house – that the bedrooms are on the upper floor. The ground floor is mostly taken up by the kitchen, living and dining room and a guest bathroom. However, this does not apply to the Royals.

It is typical for Duchess Catherine and Prince William that their kingdom and the children’s bedrooms are on the ground floor. There is a simple reason behind this: the upper floor is reserved for the Cambridge employees and is inhabited by full-time employees, including her nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo.

Insight into the royal living room

There are only a few more precise details on room planning or even room design in Kensington Palace. In 2016, William and Kate opened their doors to the then President of the United States, Barack Obama, 60, and his wife Michelle Obama, 57. Pictures showed the two couples together with Prince Harry, 36, in the private living room of the Cambridge: an absolute rarity .

The royals’ offices are also not behind closed doors. During the pandemic, both William and Kate took over many appointments via video calls and shared impressions of their unfamiliar everyday work from the lockdown on social media. The bedrooms of the royals will certainly remain a taboo topic in the future.
