Emma Raducanu is the first time a qualifier has made it to the finals of the US Open. Duchess Kate praises the “unbelievable achievement”.

Emma Raducanu (18) has achieved something that no tennis player before her was granted: She is the first female qualifier to ever compete in a final of the US Open. Her completely surprising triumph in the tennis tournament does not leave sports fan Duchess Kate (39) indifferent. She congratulated the 18-year-old on her semi-final victory on twitter: “What an incredible achievement at this year’s US Open!” For the final, Kate promised: “We’ll all be cheering you on tomorrow and we wish you the best of luck!”

Congratulations also came from Prime Minister Boris Johnson (57) via Twitter: “Well done Emma Raducanu, a brilliant win at the US Open. The whole country will cheer you on in the final!” Oasis singer Liam Gallagher (48) also sent “congratulations” to the tennis ace.

Final on Saturday

Raducanu is playing her first major game at the US Open and made it straight to the final. In the semifinals she defeated the Greek Maria Sakkari (26). But not only Raducanu managed a run at the US Open that is second to none. Your final opponent Leylah Fernandez from Canada only turned 19 a few days ago. In an unbelievable performance she defeated the world number two Aryna Sabalenka (23) from Belarus in the semifinals. The final of the two young women will take place on Saturday (September 11th) at 10 p.m. German time in New York.
