Duchess Meghan: biography may be used in court

Duchess Meghan goes to court against the "Mail On Sunday". Now she suffered defeat.

Duchess Meghan (39) is suing the British newspaper "Mail on Sunday" and its publisher Associated Newspapers for a violation of personal rights. The reason for the process is the publication of a handwritten letter from Duchess Meghan to her father Thomas Markle (76) from 2018, which was printed by the "Mail on Sunday". The Duchess sees this as an abuse of private information and violates her personal and data protection rights. At a court hearing, Meghan now suffered a setback.

According to BBC News, the court has ruled that the opposing side may change its defense and use "Finding Freedom", the biography of the Duchess and husband Prince Harry (36), published on August 11, in its argument. The publisher wants to use the biography to show that the Duchess worked with the authors of the recently published book to present her version of certain events.

Among other things, she is said to have passed on information about the letter to her father to the authors and put herself in a good light – the defense of her personal rights is thus questioned. The Duchess's lawyers deny the collaboration. In July, the Sussex couple had given a statement that they had not been in communication with the authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand. The trial is scheduled for January 2021 and should last ten days. Meghan is supposed to meet her father in court.
