Duchess Meghan: Doesn't she have to testify as a witness in court?

Duchess Meghan allegedly wants to avoid being heard as a witness in court. She had sued a British newspaper.

Duchess Meghan (39) has allegedly requested that a judge rule on her lawsuit against "The Mail on Sunday" without the need for a trial. The lawyers of Prince Harry's (36) wife want to demand this according to "The Times" in court – Meghan could avoid having to appear as a witness. According to the report, if her application is rejected, she wants the process to be postponed.

The Duchess of Sussex is suing the newspaper's editor over an article from February last year. It reproduced parts of a handwritten letter Meghan had sent to her father Thomas Markle (76). Meghan is therefore suing, among other things, for copyright infringement. Associated Newspapers denies all allegations. A ten-day trial is to take place in January.

Meghan's father could also be called as a witness

According to the report, a source said the Duchess's camp did not believe the defense had any chance of success, so they saw no compelling reason for a trial. According to British media, the judge could make a decision based on the documents submitted by both sides without the need for witnesses or further evidence. If it comes to the process, not only Meghan could be called as a witness, but also her father.

According to media reports, Meghan's legal team also wants to take action against a court order that allows the other side to change its defense and use "Finding Freedom", a biography of the Sussexes, in its argument. The publisher wants to show that the Duchess worked with the authors of the book published in the summer to portray her version of certain events. The Duchess's lawyers deny the collaboration.
