Duchess Meghan spoke out on “Vax Live” for worldwide equal access to vaccines – and for women in particular. She also mentioned her unborn daughter, whom she is looking forward to very much.

The pregnant Duchess Meghan, 39, gave a virtual speech on the night from Saturday (May 8) to Sunday (May 9) on the occasion of the “Vax Live” concert by the non-governmental organization G “lobal Citizen”. The wife of Prince Harry, 36, advocated equal access to vaccines worldwide. She also said that women were “disproportionately” affected by the ongoing corona pandemic.

“We got together tonight because the road ahead is lighting up again,” Meghan began. It will, however, “need each and every one of us” to be able to move forward. Meghan and her husband Harry “believe that it is critically important that the health, safety and success of everyone are a priority in our recovery – especially women who are disproportionately affected by this pandemic.”

In order to further illustrate the difficult situation of women – especially “Women of Color” – the former actress gave specific figures. Since the beginning of the pandemic, “almost 5.5 million women in the US have lost jobs”. 47 million more are at risk of “sliding into extreme poverty” worldwide.

Duchess Meghan also mentioned her second child in her speech, who she is currently expecting with Prince Harry. Like “millions of other families worldwide”, the couple are looking forward to the arrival of a young daughter. When thinking about her “we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who need the opportunity and support to guide us further,” emphasized the 39-year-old American.

The Sussex couple acted as campaign chairpersons for the virtual concert “VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World”, hosted by singer Selena Gomez, 28. The aim of the event, at which Jennifer Lopez, 51, and her mother Guadalupe Rodriguez, 75, appeared among others, was to collect donations and better distribute the available vaccine doses globally.
