Duchess Meghan has decided not to attend King Charles’ coronation. It was previously assumed that she was staying in California for her son Archie’s fourth birthday. But her boyfriend Omid Scobie now contradicts this and reveals the real reason for her cancellation.

On May 6, 2023, King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75, will be crowned in London’s Westminster Abbey. Prince Harry, 38, will travel to the UK alone for the historic event. The palace announced this on April 12. “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” the statement said .

Shortly thereafter, it was speculated why Duchess Meghan, 41, stayed away from the one-time event. Sussex confidant Omid Scobie, 41, tweeted that Archie’s fourth birthday on May 6 “played a part in the couple’s decision.” Scobie doesn’t seem convinced of that anymore.

Is this the real reason for Duchess Meghan’s coronation cancellation?

Because in the ITV program “This Morning”, the royal author now emphasizes to Holly Willoughby, 42, and Phillip Schofield, 61, that a completely different factor influenced the decision. “The people around the Sussexes told the press at the time that this was about Archie’s fourth birthday,” says Omid Scobie, adding, “I don’t entirely agree because I know from friends of hers that she’s also making her peace wants to protect. She’s aware of how much of a spotlight she’s getting by stepping foot anywhere near this story.”

Meghan and Harry can’t handle the attention

In this context, Willoughby reminds that even Meghan’s presence at the Queen’s funeral in September last year was criticized. The ‘Finding Freedom’ writer agrees, explaining that Meghan is often accused of intentionally trying to steal the spotlight. According to him, this would have happened at the coronation, even if she “had just stood next to her husband”.

When asked if members of the royal family were “relieved” that Meghan would not be attending the coronation, he replied: “I would say yes and I would put it down to the fact that so much attention is being focused on her. […] If you look at some of Meghan and Harry’s biggest problems, it was because everyone was constantly talking about them and drawing attention to them when it shouldn’t have been.” Following Omid Scobie’s explanations, Duchess Meghan seems to be the royal Family so deliberately not wanting to steal the show.
