Not only does Prince Harry call critics into action with his latest revelations and allegations about his family and the press, Duchess Meghan also seems to offend with some statements. The opera singer Danielle de Niese is now questioning some of them.

Duchess Meghan, 41, revealed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, 68, in spring 2021 that members of the British royal family had expressed concerns about the possible skin color of their then unborn son Archie, 4. In their documentary “Harry & Meghan” and in Prince Harry’s, 38, memoir “Spare” there are also allegations that the British press and the people were biased. The statements made waves and are still a hotly debated topic today. Danielle de Niese, 43, also thinks she is “very worrying”.

The opera singer’s parents are originally from Sri Lanka, emigrated to Australia and later to America when they were teenagers. There Danielle made a name for herself as an opera singer and is now married to Gus Christie, Executive Chairman of the Glyndebourne Opera Festival. She has two children with him and is the stepmother of his four sons from his first marriage. Just like Meghan, de Niese married into an upper-class white British family.

However, the 43-year-old does not appear to approve of Meghan’s allegations. “I find it odd when you get your home country of America to say that the whole of Britain is racist… I find that very disturbing,” she told the Daily Mail, adding: “This is not to say that racism It doesn’t happen everywhere, because it does, but I don’t think you can lump everyone together. Labeling an entire community of people as racist isn’t my experience.”

“It’s a complex story”

The soprano spent her childhood in Australia and lived in America for a long time. Today she is mistress of the East Sussex estate, which hosts the popular summer opera festival, and calls Britain home. Even if Prince Harry tried to row back from the racism statements in his recent TV interviews, Danielle thinks Meghan could have followed her example. “I’m a multiracial person and I married a man who isn’t part of the royal family but is still part of a big institution,” she explains. “I made it my goal to support my husband and learn about the people around me.” There were people who described her as “groundbreaking”, but she didn’t like this because “it feeds the ego”.

So maybe things could have turned out very differently for the Sussexes. “When Meghan and Harry first went public, everyone was very happy for them,” she adds, summing up: “I have a feeling we’ll never really know why it went wrong. It is a complex story.”
