Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry become parents again. The palace gives its opinion on this – and one detail stands out.

Duchess Meghan, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, announced on February 14, 2021 that they would make Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, 1, their big brother. They also posted a first photo of the pregnant woman. Her head is happily in Harry's lap; the baby bump is clearly visible. Two and a half hours after this news, Buckingham Palace spoke up.

Royal Family responds to baby news from Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry

"According to Buckingham Palace, the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the whole family are 'thrilled' with the news from Harry and Meghan and wish them all the best," tweeted Royal reporter Chris Ship from ITV News 9:49 p.m. German time. So far, so good – and so expectable. But one sentence makes you sit up and take notice.

The royal family was not informed

Chris Ship further tweeted: "The family was informed shortly before the announcement was published." His fellow reporter Emily Andrews from the Daily Mail explained: "The Sussexes apparently had given the Royal Family their good news, but apparently not that they would announce it. Today's announcement surprised the palace staff; no statement was prepared." Meghan and Harry are no longer working royals. But the fact that they did not inform the royal family about the baby announcement and thus showed their goodwill does not seem to go down well in the palace – and they apparently do not want to hide that.

There is a parallel to the Megxit

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are said to have acted on their own on January 8, 2020: only ten minutes before they went public with their resignation as senior royals, they should have informed the palace about the spectacular Instagram post. The royal family did not have time for a well-founded statement, and they only pointed out that the talks were "at an early stage" and that they were "complicated topics" which "would take some time to process". The reason for Duchess Meghans and Prince Harry going it alone is said to have been frustration at the time: According to the disclosure book "Finding Freedom", the palace had put the couple off for weeks because of his wish to resign.
