The feud between Duchess Meghan and Samantha Markle does not want to end. A lawsuit recently filed by the Duchess of Sussex’s half-sister is now to be heard in court. The date is already set.

Samantha Markle, 57, is suing her half-sister for damages. She claims Duchess Meghan, 41, slandered and embarrassed her with some of her statements. A Florida judge has now set a date for hearing the defamation lawsuit and is demanding that the case be dealt with “expeditiously”.

The 57-year-old accused her younger sister of peddling her rags-to-riches story. In addition, her claim from the infamous Oprah interview that she grew up as an “only child” is wrong. Markle is also bothered by some passages in the book “Finding Freedom”, which Meghan’s confidante and journalist Omid Scobie wrote.

Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell is now urging both sides to submit their documents as soon as possible, reports the Daily Mail. She wants to keep the process “cost-effective,” she is said to have noted.

Meghan’s legal team took action against the lawsuit

Meghan’s legal team had previously moved to dismiss the defamation lawsuit. It was a “feeling” and not a “fact” that she grew up as an “only child,” the argument goes. She can therefore not be held liable for this or for the content of the book, as she is not the author or editor. Samantha Markle, however, says the “false” statement not only undermines everything she’s ever said about her connection with her half-sister, but also shamed and embarrassed her.

However, the judge allowed the lawsuit, leaving Meghan and Samantha to agree on a mediator by the end of September and to complete the investigation by May next year. Should they fail to settle or resolve the case through arbitration, a hearing date has been set for October 2, 2023, which should last no longer than five days.
