After the announcement about Charles and Kate’s stay in the hospital, there is again good news from the Royal Family: Sophie turned 59.
Duchess Sophie is 59 years old. Prince Edward’s wife (59) received official congratulations from her brother-in-law, King Charles III. (75), and her sister-in-law, Queen Camilla (76).

On the royal family’s Instagram account the palace published a photo of Sophie, which shows her at a garden party at Buckingham Palace that took place in May 2023. It said: “Congratulations to the Duchess of Edinburgh!” At the same time, the palace used the posting to address the well-wishers: “Thank you for the good wishes.”
Sophie is one of the working royals and takes on many appointments for the royal family. In her new year of life, the wife of Charles’ youngest brother may be even more in demand after the King and Princess Kate (42) have to take a step back for health reasons.
Charles and Kate are out for now
The palace announced on Wednesday that Kate had undergone abdominal surgery. Shortly afterwards it was announced that the king would go to hospital next week, where he would have to undergo surgery for an enlarged prostate. On Friday, Charles was photographed for the first time since the announcement and is currently preparing for hospitalization. Camilla had previously said he was “doing well” and looking forward to getting back to work. The Queen visited the Aberdeen Art Gallery to launch its new Safe Space – an initiative that offers people help and guidance if they suspect someone is experiencing domestic abuse.
Meanwhile, Princess Kate is recovering from her operation, which was carried out at a private hospital in London on Tuesday. She is expected to spend two weeks in the clinic and will probably not take up appointments again until after Easter. But she is also doing “well,” according to palace circles.
