A large contingent of the fire brigades from Meiringen, Hasliberg, Brienz and Bödeli fought the flames all night – successfully, the Bern canton police said on Monday morning via Twitter. Several fire-fighting helicopters and a special army fire-fighting vehicle stationed at Meiringen Airport were deployed.
The extinguishing work was now mainly carried out on the ground. Nobody got hurt. Due to the limited rail traffic between Lucerne and Interlaken Ost, delays and train cancellations are to be expected. The line of the IR central railway is affected, said the SBB.
The report of the outbreak of the fire was received shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Due to the drought, wind and foehn, the extinguishing work was difficult, Jolanda Egger, media spokeswoman for the Bern canton police, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Sunday afternoon.
