Dune 2: a warrior trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s next film

It is one of the cinema events of this year 2023. The producers of Dune, part two, expected on November 1 in French cinemas, have finally released a spectacular trailer. One thing is certain, the open war for the spice of Arrakis promises to be violent.

Paul Atreides plots his revenge

Two years after the release of the first opus (September 2021), the planet Arrakis, nicknamed Dune, is about to flood cinema screens with Dune, part two. This direct sequel, with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in the main roles, will continue the story of Paul Atréides. Heir to a house decimated by the terrible Harkonnens, Paul hides with his mother within the Fremen community, people of the desert, and prepares to reconquer the planet.

Here is the official synopsis: “Paul Atreides rallies behind Chani and the Fremen while plotting his revenge against those who destroyed his family. While he must make a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the galaxy, he will nevertheless have to do everything to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.

In addition to the actors of the first part (Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin and Dave Bautista), these images give us an overview of the new characters of this sequel. Among them, Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Don’t Worry Darling) plays Princess Irulan, while Austin Butler (Elvis) takes on the role of the Feyd-Rautha. The French Léa Seydoux (Dying can wait) embodies Lady Margot, a powerful Bene Gesserit.

The title makes it clear, and director Denis Villeneuve (blade runner 2049, Sicario, prisoners) warned viewers: “It’s not a sequel, it’s a second part. There is a difference.” Enough to lay the foundations — and the expectations — of a Dune, part two which looks sensational. As evidenced by the scene of Paul riding the gigantic sandworm, aka the Shai-Hulud.

Created by Frank Herbert in 1965, the series of saga novels Dunes offers one of the richest and most popular science fiction universes in the world. In 2021, Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation had a large budget ($ 165 million), but had totaled a relatively modest global box office of $ 402 million.

This half-success (or half-failure, it depends) did not dampen Warner, who did it again with this sequel. The company intends to make its investment profitable, in particular with the start of construction of a series, The Sisterhoodin production and slated for HBO Max.
