We feared it for several weeks, it is now official. The output of Dune: part two is adjourned to March 2024. Denis Villeneuve’s film is one more victim of the massive strike underway in Hollywood.

Return to Arrakis in March 2024

Initially expected in French cinemas on November 1, 2023, Dune: part two will finally be released on Friday, March 15, 2024 (North American date). Nothing has yet been confirmed for France, but it is very likely that the date of Wednesday March 13 will be chosen.

Dune: Part Two is now slated for theaters in March 2024.

This five-month postponement was decided by Warner Bros. due to the ongoing strike in Hollywood by the 11,500 screenwriters of the Writer’s Guild of America, accompanied by 116,000 members of the main American actors’ union.

In agreement with the latter, the strike prevents actors from promoting the films, which would have a huge impact on Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster and its star cast: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler…

Dune 2 is delayed by 5 months because of the strike in Hollywood.

Besides Dunes 2Warner shifted Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire from March 14 to April 12, 2024, as well as the animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim from April 12 to December 13, 2024. However, Wonka (December 13, 2023), Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 20, 2023) and The color purple (January 24, 2024) retain their release dates.

The movie Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is also offbeat.

Expect this little game of musical chairs to not stop there. By shifting Dune: Part Two as of March 15, 2024, Warner places its blockbuster between Kung Fu Panda 4 from Universal (March 8), and a week before the live action remake Snow White from Disney (March 22).

There is no doubt that these other big films will shift their releases so as not to cannibalize each other. To be continued.
