November 1 seems a long way off. Five months from its theatrical release, Dune: part two talk about him again with a second impressive trailer. In addition to spectacular new images, this one notably reveals a first glimpse of Emperor Shaddam IV, played by Christopher Walken.
Chalamet as a prophet, Zendaya as a warrior
Three minutes of new images, and the feeling of having (perhaps?) seen too much. It must be said that this second trailer is generous, and reflects well the ambition of Denis Villeneuve’s film. The vengeance of Paul Atreides, his role within the Fremen and the open conflict with House Harkonnen turns here into open warfare, involving thousands of soldiers. Exhilarating.

Here is the official synopsis of the film: “Paul Atreides rallies behind Chani and the Fremen while plotting his revenge against those who destroyed his family. While he must make a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the galaxy, he will nevertheless have to do everything to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.
Glimpsed in the first trailer, Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan) and Austin Butler (Feyd-Rautha) are visible again. Above all, we have (finally) our first glimpse of Emperor Shaddam IV, supreme ruler of the galaxy in the work of Frank Herbert, and portrayed by Christopher Walken (Journey to the End of Hell, pulp Fiction). The character will play a crucial role in the film.
As a reminder, the films Dunes are adapted from the series of novels by Frank Herbert published from 1965. This one has six original novels, developing the story over more than 1500 years and generations of characters.
Dune: part two must thus complete the story of the first novel, as its director Denis Villeneuve made clear: “It’s not a sequel, it’s a second part. There is a difference”. If the first film had collected “only” 402 million dollars at the worldwide box office, everything indicates that Warner Bros. is determined to turn the saga into a lucrative future franchise.
Dune: part two will be released on November 1, 2023 in cinemas. The first film is available for streaming on Canal+.
