“Dune 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the sci-fi blockbuster starring Timothée Chalamet (“Wonka”) and Zendaya (“Euphoria”), has started in cinemas. Finally we go back to the barren desert planet Arrakis, where Paul Atreides and his mother stay among the Fremen and fight for their survival.
Since the “Dune” films are based on the numerous novels by Frank Herbert, many details were already covered in the first part. From the beginning of “Dune” it is clear that the power struggle for Arrakis will be the most important plot point. The noble House of Atreides actually rules over the planet Caladan when their Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac, “Moon Knight”) is called upon by the Emperor to take control of the barren desert planet.
Arrakis, also called Dune, is apparently uninteresting as a desert, but is an important economic location in the universe thanks to the valuable raw material Spice. When the Duke decides to move with his family and entourage, he already knows that this decision could lead to a delicate undertaking.
