Dune and more: These blockbusters will still give us cinema pleasure in 2020

The corona crisis has largely paralyzed public life in Germany. In addition to schools, restaurants and retail, this also applies to cinemas. Since March, numerous film releases have been postponed – sometimes until 2021, such as "Fast & Furious 9" and "Ghostbusters: Legacy". However, some blockbusters have received new movie releases for 2020, others were scheduled for the end of the year anyway. These highlights are still waiting for cinema fans – provided that cinema visits are possible again by then.

Yifei Liu and Gal Gadot

Disney wanted to bring the live-action version of the animation classic "Mulan" to the cinemas at the end of March. Because of the corona crisis, the German release was postponed to July 23, 2020. The Chinese actress Yifei Liu (32) embodies the title heroine. Mulan Hua, the daughter and only child of a highly decorated soldier, decides to follow the Emperor's draft order into the army instead of her sick and weakened father. In male clothing, she poses as Jun Hua and has to pass the strictest tests. She shows a lot of courage and strength on her way.

DC comic hero Gal Gadot (34) was originally supposed to embark on a new adventure in June. "Wonder Woman 1984", the sequel to the box office hit from 2017, will be released in Germany on August 13, 2020 instead. Decades later, Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman meets pilot Steve Trevor, allegedly deceased in part one, played by Chris Pine (39). Kristen Wiig (46, "Bridal Alarm") embodies Barbara Minerva alias Cheetah. Hybrid Cheetah is considered the most notorious comic book enemy of Wonder Woman. "Narcos" star Pedro Pascal (45), on the other hand, can be seen as businessman Maxwell Lord.

The second prank by John Krasinski

With the horror film "A Quiet Place" actor John Krasinski (40, "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan") achieved a real surprise hit in 2018. In mid-March part two, again with Krasinski's wife Emily Blunt (37, "The Devil Wears Prada") in the leading role, should be released. "A Quiet Place 2" will start in Germany on September 3, 2020 and the protagonists will meet more noise-sensitive creatures. Krasinski again wrote and directed the film himself.

One last time Scarlett Johansson and Daniel Craig

Superhero fans had to say goodbye to Natasha Romanoff alias Black Widow in the most successful film ever, "Avengers: Endgame" (2019). But Scarlett Johansson (35) returns to the big screen in her superhero role – a prequel makes it possible. Instead of the end of April, her solo film "Black Widow" will be released in Germany on November 5, 2020. The plot probably takes place after "The First Avenger: Civil War" (2016). In addition to Johansson, "Stranger Things" star David Harbor (45), "Little Women" newcomer Florence Pugh (24) and Oscar winner Rachel Weisz (50) will also be there.

Fans have to wait a bit for the fifth and final appearance of Daniel Craig (52) as 007. "No time to die" was one of the first blockbusters to deviate from the original launch date in early April due to the corona crisis. Craig's finale as James Bond is – as the trailers already promised – action-packed and fast-paced. Oscar winner Rami Malek (38, "Bohemian Rhapsody") appears as a mysterious villain. Christoph Waltz (63) returns as villain Blofeld. And what secret does Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux, 34) keep? From November 12, 2020, the 25th Bond film can be seen in the German cinema armchairs.

Timothée Chalamet vs. Eddie Murphy

Even without a Corona shift, Hollywood's most popular young star, Timothée Chalamet (24, "Call Me by Your Name"), and comedy veteran Eddie Murphy (59, "The Mad Professor") will fight for the favor of the Moviegoers. Chalamet plays the main role in "Dune", the remake of director Denis Villeneuve (52, "Blade Runner 2049"). The sci-fi cracker is based on the book "The Desert Planet" by Frank Herbert (1920-1986). The first film adaptation from 1984 was directed by David Lynch (74). Back then, Kyle MacLachlan (61) and Sting (68) were there.

Murphy in turn celebrates his comeback in cinema in the sequel to the cult film "The Prince from Zamunda" (1988). In the 80s classic, originally called "Coming to America", Eddie Muphy embodies the character Prince Akeem from a fictional kingdom in Africa. Akeem is said to be married on his 21st birthday to a woman befitting his father, King Jaffe (James Earl Jones, 89). But the Prince of Zamunda longs for a woman with his own opinion. The sprout accustomed to luxury wants to find them in the New York borough of Queens. The chaos is inevitable.

Comeback for Tom Cruise as a pilot

Hollywood star Tom Cruise (57) is back in one of his star roles this year. In "Top Gun – You Fear Neither Death nor the Devil" he appeared in 1986 as fighter pilot Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell of the United States Navy.

In the eagerly awaited sequel "Top Gun: Maverick", he shoots through the air again. Instead of summer 2020, the strip in Germany will deliver an action-packed annual closing from December 23, 2020.
