At the beginning of September, Denis Villeneuve’s new film “Dune” will celebrate its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.

The new sci-fi blockbuster “Dune” will celebrate its world premiere on September 3, 2021 at the Venice International Film Festival. as has now been announced. The film by the Canadian director Denis Villeneuve (53) will not take part in the competition.

Villeneuve, known among other things for “Arrival” and “Blade Runner 2049”, brings with “Dune” an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert (1920-1986) onto the screen. Numerous stars can be seen in the blockbuster, including Zendaya (24), Timothée Chalamet (25), Josh Brolin (53), Oscar Isaac (42), Dave Bautista (52), Jason Momoa (41), Charlotte Rampling (75) , Javier Bardem (52) and Stellan Skarsgard (70).

“Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides (Chalamet) who tries to secure the future of his people. He is traveling to the most dangerous planet in the universe, because there is a special raw material there that could enable humanity to reach its full potential.

Already in 1984 a film adaptation of the original was released with “Der Wüstenplanet” directed by David Lynch (75). The theatrical release of “Dune” in Germany is expected for mid-September.
