New departures from Dune: The Sisterhood
It’s been a while (not really) since HBO Max hasn’t been in the news because of some bad news. Today, we are talking about his future series Dune: The Sisterhood. The prequel show to Denis Villeneuve’s film is not yet fully buried, but several signals do not invite optimism.
First of all, despite the start of production last November, it is already on hiatus. This break would have officially been planned upstream, but it’s hard not to feel the links with the other announcements of the day: actress Shirley Henderson and director Johan Renck are abandoning ship.
A changing project
The first was to embody one of the main roles of the series devoted to the order of the Bene Gesserit, Tula Harkonnen. Another actress will therefore have to take her place. The second was to direct the first two episodes. According to the production, the director has ” completed his work on the series and […] through a mutual agreement, Johan leaves to pursue other projects “.
Last-minute creative changes around the script, including generating delays, would obviously not be to everyone’s taste. We do not really know if the departure of Shirley Henderson is linked to it, but it is a completely plausible hypothesis.
For the record, the original showrunner Jon Spaihts left the adventure at the end of last year to be replaced by two other people… so that in the end only Alison Schapker remains at the helm today, after the departure of Diane Ademu -John. In the meantime, remember that Dune: Part Two will arrive (if all goes well) at the cinema on the 1er next November!
