Drama in the Innviertel! Two workers were busy clearing up damage caused by the heavy snowfall of the past few days. A 33-year-old from Salzburg wanted to cut down a tree that had fallen on a street, with fatal consequences.

The terrible forestry accident occurred in Gilgenberg, in the Braunau district, on Tuesday shortly before 4 p.m. A 33-year-old and a 24-year-old, both from Salzburg, were working together on repairing the forest damage of the past few days. The 33-year-old wanted to use a chainsaw to repair an uprooted tree that had fallen from a slope over the local road that passed by. Root stock fell over. He was standing on the side of the tree and wanted to cut the rhizome from the trunk. The rootstock tipped back onto the ground and buried the worker under itself. The 24-year-old noticed the accident and immediately tried to remove the slipped rootstock with the tractor crane in order to free the 33-year-old. He also immediately set the rescue chain in motion. Tragically, the man died from his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
