Berlin Mayor Giffey pelted with eggs

SPD politician Franziska Giffey actually only wants to say thank you to the working population on Labor Day. However, the displeasure in the audience at the rally is enormous – and culminates in flying eggs in the direction of the Berlin mayor.

Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) was pelted with eggs and booed at the central rally of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) in the capital. As an AFP reporter reported, two eggs were thrown out of the crowd in a row, but they didn’t hit the politician. Their security guards then shielded them with an open screen and a plexiglass shield.

Giffey’s speech at the DGB rally was accompanied and disturbed by boos and chants from the start. The crowd loudly demanded that the Berlin referendum on the expropriation of real estate companies be implemented.

The state district manager of the Verdi service union, Frank Wolf, criticized the behavior as “despicable”. “Even if you have a different opinion, nobody has the right to disrupt events or physically attack those who think differently,” explained Wolf.

In her speech, Giffey thanked everyone who had worked under difficult conditions during the Corona crisis. In addition to applause and recognition, good work deserves above all fair pay and good working conditions, said the Governing Mayor.

In her speech, Giffey thanked everyone who continued to work under difficult conditions during the Corona crisis, according to the Senate Chancellery. It is thanks to them that the country came through the crisis well. Good work deserves fair pay and good working conditions. The Berlin Senate is doing its part by increasing the state minimum wage to 13 euros.
