The model of what people hope a leader to be?
This is part of Trevor Noah’s podcast, What Now? available on Spotifythat the colossal star of Jumanji and Black Adam confided this astonishing information, while the comedian and host asked him to return to the results of a survey conducted by Newsweek in April 2021, and which saw 46% of those questioned declare enthusiastic at the idea of seeing the actor occupy the Oval Office.

“Either it means you are the model of what people hope a leader to be,” Trevor Noah says with humor as part of the podcast. “Either things have gotten so bad that these people are like, ‘We need someone to come in here and beat everyone up!’.
“I received visits from different parties”
After a few laughs, Dwayne Johnson then reveals that what could have been just a simple idea ultimately germinated among several representatives, without specifying their identity or their political side. “I received visits from different parties. They asked me if I was going to introduce myself and if I could introduce myself. (…) It came out of nowhere, and it was one after the other”.
Beyond the April 2021 survey, they went even further according to him: “They also presented their own extensive research and data that would prove, if I ever decided to go down this path, that I would be a real competitor. (…) It was all really surreal because it never been my goal. My goal was never to be in politics. And in fact, there are a lot of things about politics that I hate.”

“I don’t want that for my little ones right now.”
Dwayne Johnson had for a time considered launching the race for the White House, with a view to the 2020 campaign. Before finally giving up during the summer of 2018, without closing the door: “I attach a lot of importance to our country… and the idea of one day becoming president to generate positive things and profound changes is very attractive”
In 2022, he once again preferred to decline the proposal, in particular to protect his two youngest daughters (aged 5 and 7) from such upheaval in their lives, even though he knows he has missed important moments of the life of his eldest, aged 22. “I know what it’s like to have that separation and not be there for birthdays, not be there to pick them up or drop them off at school and everything else. (…) I don’t want that for my little ones now.”
Around 2032 and beyond?
But the door is still not closed for him: “If that’s ultimately what people would want, then of course I would consider that possibility,” he concludes very seriously at Trevor Noah’s microphone. Is a “Ronald Reagan-style” destiny in store for The Rock? Remember that in 1960, the future President, then an actor, led the actors’ strike at the head of the Screen Actors Guild before entering the Oval Office in 1981.
