The Nik Collection is a software suite that comes in the form of a plug-in. Composed of eight modules allowing you to apply different types of effects and modify your photos more or less intensely, it is published by the French company DxO.

Even more customization

Version 4 gained integration with Adobe programs, Photoshop and Lightroom. With this version 5, DxO focuses mainly on two modules: NiK Color Efex and NiK Analog Efex. Their interfaces have been reworked to be more in line with the other modules in the suite. According to DxO, the NiK Color Efex, which allows you to manipulate colors at will, is the favorite module of NiK Collection users.

Tools inherited from Photolab 5

DxO has deepened the color retouching by optimizing the U Point technology, already appreciated by fans of the sequel. Control points can be renamed and it is also possible to save them as presets, which would speed up the workflow. Two sliders for managing luminance and chrominance have been added for further control. Color Efex also inherits ClearView, PhotoLab 5’s technology to get rid of haze, fog or atmospheric haze.

4300 new camera/lens combinations

29 new in-house film grains have also been added to Color Efex’s filter library. NiK Perspective Efex, which is used in particular to correct optical deformations, has seen its database increase with the addition of 20 new cameras and 60 lenses, for 4300 new combinations. This brings the total to 70,000 combinations, for as many corrections

Finally, those who invest in the NiK Collection 5 will benefit from the DxO Photolab 5 Essential program as an extra, whereas it is usually billed at €110.

Price and availability

Nik Collection 5 is available from June 15, for Windows and Mac OS, at €149 on the DxO website. Those who already owned the NiK Collection 4 will only have to pay €79. Note that you can try the software for free for 30 days.
