DxOMark tests Xiaomi 13 Ultra: Without Huawei, Leica’s cell phone camera is only average

XIAOMI 13 ULTRA

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s Leica camera has passed DxOMark’s test. Unlike the cell phones previously developed by Leica with Huawei, the result is sobering.

  • The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is only 14th in the DxOMark ranking with its Leica camera.
  • The predecessor Mi 11 Ultra, developed without Leica, performs better.
  • Leica’s former cooperation partner Huawei leads the ranking with the P60 Pro.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra will finally be available in Germany from June 12 at 10 a.m. The flagship of the mobile phone should be the camera developed in cooperation with Leica. The renowned photo laboratory DxOMark has now put it through its paces and compared it with other top smartphones. The result should be sobering for the manufacturer.

Instead of taking first place with the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, as it did two years ago, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra only ranked 14th with 140 points in the camera ranking. But it is in good company there. The Google Pixel 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra also rank equally in this place.

Mi 11 Ultra without Leica camera performs better

The two-year-old Mi11 Ultra, on the other hand, does even better with 141 points. And that although Xiaomi has not yet worked with Leica on its camera. Leica’s former partner Huawei, on the other hand, apparently coped well with the separation. The new Huawei P60 Pro without a Leica camera takes first place in the DxOMark ranking with 156 points.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra: The cell phone should take photos like this

Xiaomi has published some sample images on Weibo that, according to the manufacturer, were photographed with the Leica camera of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

In its detailed test, the website praises the “consistent image quality over the entire zoom range” and the “rather large dynamic range for photos” with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, among other things. There is criticism, among other things, for the delay between pressing the shutter button and the actual shots and “oversaturated colors in outdoor shots”.

Cooperation may take time

One consolation for Xiaomi fans should be that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is only the second model generation for which the Chinese manufacturer is working with Leica. The cooperation between Huawei and Leica also took time. After the P9 and P10, only the third model (Huawei P20 Pro) and its successor, the Huawei P30 Pro, attracted attention with their camera performance.
