Straightening hair without heating plates will be possible. We owe this small revolution in the field of beauty to the Airstrait, the new straightener from Dyson. As usual, the British manufacturer relies on a powerful airflow of 12 liters per second expelled on the hair.

This is the innovation, because if the Airstrait looks like two drops of water to a classic straightener, it is not in fact. Without heating plates, the hair is not exposed to extreme temperatures. While some devices exceed 230°C, the Dyson tries not to cross 140°C. And to best maintain the right temperature, the device automatically controls the heating – 16 times per second to be exact – so as not to damage the hair.

Without heating plates, the Airstrait also saves considerable time. With this device, it is now possible to straighten wet hair, which is unthinkable with a conventional straightener.

A tall order for the Dyson Airstrait

The device is more than attractive on paper, but we want to judge its prowess with our own eyes. To push the Airstrait to its limits, we put it in front of type 3C hair, that is to say very tight little curls. A big challenge! The hair being very dense, it was necessary to work it upstream with a hair dryer and a brush. OK, saving time here is all relative…

Once the curls are relaxed, we turn on the Dyson Airstrait in Dry mode, the Wet mode being dedicated to leaving the shower or after having dampened the hair. The straightener produces a flow of air when it is started, which gains in power once it is tightened around the wick. And to properly straighten, the movement must be slow, very slow.

We thought she was indomitable, but this beautiful mane let it go. The locks are smoothed and the result is impressive. Be careful, you should not expect a baguette smoothing and this may disappoint more than one. Dyson promises a natural result; we might say not always perfect.

The type of hair obviously determining

Type 3 or 4 hair may have difficulty enjoying optimal straightening, especially since we are used to heated appliances. To discipline your hair, it is therefore recommended to straighten it immediately after shampooing with the Wet mode and to maintain your hairstyle daily with the Dry mode until the next wash.

Hair types 1 and 2 are straightened in the blink of an eye.

Again, it all depends on the hair and the look you want to achieve. The fact remains that the Airstrait is amazing, both in its process and in its results. With this device, Dyson continues to make airflow its standard.

The United States can already get hold of this latest Dyson beauty innovation. With us, you will have to be patient before you can equip yourself. The Airstrait is not expected on the French market before early 2024.
